So the 4 jockeys who let Certain Style hack up at 28/1 unchallenged by 22 lengths, in a 5 runner "Hands And Heels" 2m AW Apprentice Handicap, got handed a 10 day ban each?
Granted, Kyle McHugh, Mason Paetel, Warren Fentiman, and Chloe Lyons didn’t exactly show the greatest racing riding and pace management skills. Banning amateur jockeys is really a thing though, really? In a hands and heels only race?
Ok, they let Certain Style open up a massive lead early on and despite the race being arguably slower than expected for a 2 mile AW handicap at Lingfield, none of them could catch up. From what I saw, the winner didn't settle and his jockey Tyrese Cameron let him do what he wanted after a furlong or so. He went clear, the whipless jockeys thought he would come back to them, he never. Move on.
The stewards did note that these 4 jockeys were all still in the "learning" phase of thier careers. They still banned them though. Funnily enough, Cameron was reprimanded for trying to enter the wrong stall prior to the race. No ban. Different mistake. I dunno.
Inexperienced jockeys failed to challenge, leading to a bizarre 22-length win. A crucial learning moment for apprentices.
