Southwell Mayhem

Mayhem at Southwell Today (10 Jan, 2008): Jockeys Kirsty Milczarek, Andrew Elliott, Pat Cosgrave and Paul Mulrennan were hit with a 7 day ban (January 21-27) after failing to pull up their mounts when a false start was ordered, after one of the horses (Jord) burst through the Southwell starting stalls, followed by the rest of the runners.

The flagwoman waved the flag for sure, but only the slowest away, and widest drawn Rebellious Spirit's jockey Chris Catlin noticed. Needless to say, the punished jockey's are not amused.

Rebellious Spirit Walkover:
The race was restarted, with Rebellious Spirit, who was 10/1 at the last show, gaining a walkover.

No starting price was returned and all losing bets were voided and refunded, but some bookmakers said they would pay out on Rebellious Spirit. Apparently this move cost the bookies £100,000.
