Race Overview: An interesting little sprint handicap and one that can be taken by Gleaming Spirit, with recent winners Sundae and Darcy's Pride among the dangers which also include Halsion Chancer and Castano. Gleaming Spirit took a couple of races to get going but showed a fair bit of improvement last time out when runner up at Goodwood. He is due to go up 4lb shortly and with more improvement likely here he is taken to go one better this time. Sundae was a short head Nottingham winner last time over 6f and this is his first try at the minimum but he is related to winners at the trip so he should go well. The ground may be a bit quick for Gentle Guru, but Frankie is an interesting booking for dual 5f polytrack winner Halsion Chancer, who reappears after a three month break. Of the others Castano might just be found wanting for speed and Darcy's Price will find a hat-trick bid much tougher than his latest success, and we fancy that improver Gleaming Spirit can shine here.

Race Overview: This should prove an informative maiden, but By Command has got a nice CV and is the nomination to see off La Voile Rouge, Native Talent, Firestreak and Hampstead Heath. The selection comes from a yard that is going really well and looks sure to have a good idea about the job before making his debut. There is plenty of winning form in his pedigree and at this age, and so we will side with him. La Voile Rouge will be popular with Frankie up. he comes from a yard that is not red hot at present and will probably want further to be seen to best effect, and the same applies to Native Talent. Firestreak represents Her Majesty and is another with some good credentials, while Hampstead Heath, whose dam won over this trip as a juvenile, arguably looks to be even more of a threat. However, By Command comes from a yard in form and can add to their tally.

Race Overview: Although a beaten favourite last time, Monte Alto can put that to rights here and take this mile handicap, with Gyroscope, Laa Rayb and Grand Vizier others on the short list. The selection steps up from 7f here and that should be the key to his success. A couple of pleasing maidens as a juvenile were followed up by a comfortable Lingfield success on debut this time. His recent defeat was still a decent effort and if he stays on as strongly up the hill here then he can score. Gyroscope is already a winner at the trip, having done so on his seasonal bow. He was beaten at Newbury last time where the drop back in trip and softer ground may have been to blame, so he is respected here. Laa Rayb was a debut mile winner on fibresand last year and probably needed his recent run here to get him straight. The step back up is a plus and he can go close. Of the others, Grand Vizier drops back in trip and will need every yard of this to make it into more of a stamina test, but we prefer Monte Alto to get it right this time.

Race Overview: Greek Well is the one they all have to beat here and gets the nod ahead of Clear Sailing, Cleaver and Prince Nureyev. The four-year-old came good over course and distance last time and this track and trip looks ideal for him. His penalty makes things tougher but the manner of that latest win suggested that he has the improvement in him. Clear Sailing was a soft ground winner over this trip at Nottingham and being by Selkirk, connections will again be hoping that the forecast rains arrive to improve his already decent chance. Cleaver would not be as good as that runner, but if the rains come he too will enjoy himself here while Prince Nureyev has plenty to find with the selection on their recent running here and his best hope looks to be finishing in the money. However Greek Well did the job nicely last time and can follow up.

Race Overview: Not the strongest of handicaps to conclude the card and Rowan River can come good for trainer Mark Tompkins, with Mardi, Cry Presto and Mango Masher others under scrutiny. The selection has been knocking on the door and was a shade unlucky not to finish closer than fourth when not getting a clear run at Lingfield last time. That was his first try at this trip and there was sufficient encouragement for us to side with him this time around. Mardi was a mile scorer at Southwell when last seen out in December. He clearly has fitness to prove, though he should get the trip. Cry Presto has one win from 12 attempts and that was over 12f. He is slipping to a more favourable mark but we are still not certain what is his optimum trip and so we will pass him over. Of the others, Mango Masher makes his turf debut and has shaped with promise on at least one occasion. He is not backable, but it is worth noting how he runs here, though our preference is for Rowan River.
