Race Overview: Insignia gets a narrow vote over Cockatoo and Forest Silver in the opener at the Sussex track. Alison Thorpe has her team in good form at present, and it will not be too long surely before she places Insignia to good effect judged on his first outing over timber at Worcester recently when the ex-Mark Brisbourne gelding was second to Pigeon Island. A maiden on the level, he can make the most of the weight that he receives from Cockatoo to oblige. The latter represents the powerful local combination of Gary Moore and son Jamie and lines up on the back of two wins over hurdles, the latest of which was here, and he is even fitter from a spin on the Flat at Goodwood six-days ago. He will be a tough nut to crack, but there could be value in opposing him. Forest Silver was pretty one-paced when second over three miles at Uttoxeter last time and will do well to figure over this shorter trip, with preference for Insignia.

Race Overview: This very moderate contest looks best left to Ah Yeah, with York Rite, Top Dancer and Shanehill the ones to chase him home. Ah Yeah bids to repeat his course-and-distance victory of 18-days ago here, when he showed a good turn of foot to score on his first start for Jimmy Frost. That was also his first outing under rules in two years, and as he was racing from out of the handicap, that performance was even more commendable. York Rite was flattered by his proximity to the winner in a Folkestone hunter-chase last month, while Top Dancer will struggle under his weight. Of the remainder, Shanehill is dropped in grade, but that is the only thing in his favour, and really this should be well within the grasp of Ah Yeah.

Race Overview: Carthys Cross has obvious claims against the Moore pair Tavalu and Earlsfield Raider, and will be hard to beat. Carthys Cross already has plenty of experience over fences, and has been runner-up on each of his last two starts, including here last month when mugged on the line by Dusky Warbler. In truth it appeared as though Tom George's charge had decided to down tools despite the urgings of Tony McCoy, so at least the champion will know what to expect. The main danger could be Tavalu, a fair second on his chase debut at Towcester six-days ago. He will find this track less testing, and makes more appeal than stablemate Earlsfield Raider who has a long absence to overcome. Nothing else appeals too much, and with the strength of A P to call on, this is best left to Carthys Cross.

Race Overview: Schemer Fagan gets the call ahead of Another Gale, Mad Professor and La Griffe. This is yet another race in which bets are best kept to the minimum, with our vote going to Schemer Fagan on the strength of his last-time out second over shorter here nine days ago. That was his best effort for some time, and this step up in trip and drop in grade should at least enable him to figure in the finish. Another Gale reverts to hurdles again after jumping badly round Towcester last time, and has a squeak on past form, while Mad Professor has not run under rules since last September but was second in a point recently. La Griffe was runner-up to Ah Yeah over fences here 18-days ago, and a good run by the latter in the 7:05pm would advertise his claims. However, we shall stick with Schemer Fagan to small stakes.

Race Overview: Cape Stormer is the one to beat, with Royal Stardust seen as the one to give him most to do. Nick Gifford has found what appears to be a suitable opportunity for Cape Stormer to make a winning start for new connections. The ex-Paul Nicholls inmate had been in good form between-the-flags before gaining his first hunter-chase victory at Huntingdon three weeks ago, and now lines up back under rules off a mark of 95. Although there is not much improvement to come, he will take some pegging back off that rating, and should prove too good for Royal Stardust on this occasion. The latter has to shoulder topweight and has been off the track for over a year, so is entitled to need the run today. The market may well reveal if anything else is fancied, but Cape Stormer lines up fitter than most, and should make that count.

Race Overview: Mistified can follow up in the finale, with Mapilut du Moulin, Up The Boreen and Just Beware three likely dangers. Mistified finally gained the victory that his consistent efforts in the past warranted when scoring over a longer trip round here nine-days ago. That was a conditional riders' affair, so he does not have to carry a penalty, lining up on the same mark of 90, and with Wayne Kavanagh in the saddle again, he can follow up despite dropping back in trip. Mapilut du Moulin is a long-standing maiden who appears to be just too high in the weights at present, and he can be safely taken on. Ex-Irish Up The Boreen may have been unlucky when falling at the last on his British chasing bow at Plumpton, as he was staying on strongly behind the leaders, so has to be respected back over hurdles despite topweight, while Just Beware is hard to win with.
