Official Derby Shoe Made By Emma Hope
For the first time, Emma Hope (official website) has designed a "Derby Shoe" exclusively for the 2007 Vodafone Derby Festival.Emma has designed a red leather brogued high bar shoe with white patterned punching and a distinctive detail on the heel with going stick markings a measurement essential in the world of racing indicating the ground conditions on which horses race. The shoe has a matching frame bag in red leather with white binding.
Emma Hope (biography) commented, "I love the Derby when you walk around Epsom it is alive with glamour like the crowd scene of feather hatted gypsies in the Victorian painting of Derby Day by Frith.
I wanted to design a shoe that would take you to the Derby in style, but with a hidden asset. Inevitably, when you go racing your heels sink in to the grass so taking advantage of this, I've used striped leather like a going stick so you can see, depending on how far the heel goes down, whether the going is soft or firm. Add a lucky horse shoe Never Give Up racing tag for your handbag to your inside knowledge and you are bound to pick a winner".
All Emma Hope's shoes and bags are made in small, family owned factories in Tuscany, who are specialists in the finest hand crafted shoe making techniques. Emma Hope (interview) has shops in Sloane Square and Notting Hill (westbourne grove) and her shoes and bags are sold in over 150 stores worldwide.
