Jockey Shane Kelly Banned From Riding For 1 Year

Jockey Shane Kelly (28) has been banned from riding for 12 months by the HRA (horseracing regulatory authority) for breaking the rules of racing. Kelly can still work in racing, but cannot ride. It is expected Kelly will continue to ride out at the Newmarket headquarters for Jeremy Noseda.

3 other jockeys were found guilty by the HRA disciplinary panel. David Nolan (9 month ban), Josh Burn (4 months) and Fran Ferris (5 years). Trainer Phil Mcentee is also barred from running horses in public for 12 months. Other non racing licensed individuals were banned for varying lengths of time, including Ajaz Khan, who purports to be a professional gambler.

"I will think about an appeal, but will wait to see the full reasons for the panel's decisions before deciding.

"They have cleared me of stopping a horse, but I am still disappointed to get suspended for a year as I don't think the evidence was there, and I wish the press were allowed in to the inquiry to see the evidence.

"I have won my appeal against Local Fancy so I can still work in racing and everyone in racing has been very supportive. Jeremy Noseda and Jamie Osborne are just two of the people who have helped.

"I will be able to pick up my career after the suspension finishes. I was off for nine months recently with a broken leg and came back from that.

"Racing and working with horses is what I love and is what I will continue to do. I can still go racing and will keep on going."
