The Racehorse Owners Association reports that the new £40million all weather track at Great Leighs opening date is still an unknown.To paraphrase, an inspection team from the BHB (british horseracing board and the HRA (horseracing regulatory authority) will asses the progress of Great Leighs shortly.
Two months worth of racing fixtures due to take place at the new all weather track from february to June 2007 have been cancelled. The earliest possible Great Leighs AWT opening date is now apparently June 21, Gold Cup day at Royal Ascot. Doubts remain about that opening date though, because the AW polytrack surface has not even started to be laid, and the stockpiled polytrack material is no longer suitable.
