Epsom Summer Racing Season Details
Epsom's 2007 racing season starts with the traditional bluesq.com Spring Meeting on Wednesday 25th April. It is the first and only chance to enjoy racing at Epsom Downs before the prestigious Vodafone Derby Festival held on the 1st and 2nd June. The Spring Meeting Blue Riband Derby Trial may highlight a horse to follow for The Derby as it is the only chance for prospective Derby prospects to test themselves in competitive action on Epsom's unique undulations. Last year this trial was won by 'Before you Go' trained by Epsom based Terry Mills who then went on to run in the 2006 Vodafone Derby.
The first race of the day will be a competitive handicap held over the minimum distance of five furlongs along Epsom's sprint course - the fastest in the world. Another highlight of the card will be the Blue Square City and Suburban Handicap Stakes run over 1 mile 2 furlongs. For the first time this race will be run as a Heritage Handicap therefore a full range of handicap weights will be eligible to win the £40,000 prize fund.
The Spring Meeting will also prove an ideal opportunity to witness the stylish new Entrance Pavilion that is taking shape in the first phase of Epsom's redevelopment project.
Tickets can be purchased in advance, with prices starting from only £11 for the Grandstand and Queen's Stand badges £16 if booked before 18th April, £20 thereafter.
