2007 Epsom Derby To Dazzle The Racing Public
The Derby stands apart from other sporting events as the greatest flat race in the world. Vodafone Derby Day features seven competitive races held over the unique and challenging Epsom Downs course, a true test of human and equine all round skill.2007 will be the 228th running of The Derby. It is the race that every owner, trainer, breeder and jockey wants to win more than any other. It is the best of the best. It is also the day when over 100,000 people flock to Epsom Downs to celebrate the renewal of one of the great English sporting events. This internationally famous race attracts a worldwide audience of many millions and last year BBC viewing figures reached 4.1 million people watching the Derby itself.
Last year's Derby had a sensational finish after Sir Percy produced a winning run in the final furlong. Sir Percy's jockey, Martin Dwyer, went for a daring gap on the inside rail and four horses crossed the line at the same time. It was the closest finish in the history of The Derby and even Sir Percy's trainer, Marcus Tregoning, thought that his stable star failed to cross the line first.
The iconic race has been best likened to a Helter-Skelter, with the mile and a half Derby course climbing and curving sharply around the crowd packed Epsom Downs. It is the ultimate test for horses and jockeys as Epsom is incomparable to any other course in the world.
